Applying for a school place at times other than the normal admissions round (out of rounds)

There are two main reasons why you might be applying for a school place other than at the time of the normal admission round: You might be moving house or unhappy with your child’s current school.

This on-line brochure applies to the normal admission round but much of it also applies to any other application for a school place.

To apply for a school place outside the main admission round you must complete an application form. Schools regard a telephone call as an enquiry, not as an application for a place. You can get an application form from the school you wish to apply to or from the Admissions Team. Once you have completed this form, send it direct to the school. The school will then reply in writing.

If the school has not reached its published admission number for your child's year group, it will normally offer you a place. The school will require your child to start at the school within four weeks. If it has already reached its published admission number for the year group, it is less likely that it will be able to offer a place. If the school cannot offer you a place, it will send you a letter of refusal containing details of what to do next.

If you are refused a place at a school, you can ask the school to put your child's name on the waiting list. You may also appeal against the decision not to admit your child.

Applications for admission during the academic year 2009-2010 can be considered at any time and the school may hold the place for four school weeks. Applications for admission in September 2009 can be considered from 5 June 2009, and the school may hold the place from 8 June 2009.
