Applying for a place in a Hampshire school

Year 7 Timeline

It is very important that if your child attends a Hampshire maintained primary school, your application form reaches your child's current school or is submitted by 12 o'clock midday on Friday 19 October 2007 at the very latest. Be sure to read all instructions on the CAF very carefully.

Timeline

Beginning of Autumn term - Primary and junior schools send CAF and A5 guide to Hampshire pupils only. Publication of secondary school examination results. Secondary school open days/evenings

19 October 2007 (by 12 o'clock midday) -  Closing date for secondary school applications

November 2007  - February 2008 - The admissions team liaises with admission authority schools and neighbouring authorities to ensure that parents receive a single offer for the highest preference school able to offer a place

15 February 2008 - "Freezing" date: Final date on which admissions team can consider any necessary or unavoidable changes e.g. change of address. New information or applications will not be considered until 17 March 2008

3 March 2008 -  Single notification date: The admissions team writes to all Hampshire parents to inform them of the outcome of their applications

From April 2008 - Appeals heard

September 2008 - Start school.

Applications received after the deadline

Applications received after the closing date will be considered after all on-time preferences, unless there are exceptional circumstances that warrant earlier consideration. Places may not be available in a local school for children moving into the area late in the school year. The admissions team.will inform you of alternative places.

Applications for admission during the academic year

Applications for admission during the academic year 2008-2009 can be considered five school weeks in advance and the school may hold the place for four school weeks. Applications for admission the following September can be considered on 2 June 2008 and the school may hold the place from 9 June 2008.

If you wish to apply to a school in another local authority area, you must obtain a copy of that authority's own brochure to ensure that you fulfil all admission requirements.
