Drug Market Profiles

Hampshire DAAT, in conjunction with partnerships across the South East, has introduced a biannual Drug Market Profile questionnaire. It is available in downloadable Word format as Drug Market Profile questionnaire, alternatively, it may be completed online as Drug Market Profile Survey Monkey. The questionnaires may be completed at any time and the information extracted at regular intervals for review and publication. It is planned to compile the next report from responses submitted by 29th May 2009 and publish a summary during National Tackling Drugs Week, 8-12th June 2009.

The questionnaire will provide a number of benefits to partners involved in tackling substance misuse issues.

  • ·Aims to gather perceptions of drugs use and availability

  • ·Relates to general understanding of changes and trends

  • ·Does not ask for specific names or intelligence sources

  • ·Provides a living picture to identify changes in drug market trends, availability or supply

  • ·Helps to identify key substance misuse priorities

  • ·Helps to inform needs assessments and commissioning of treatment services

  • ·Helps to identify common or emerging issues

We aim to gather information from a wide range of individuals groups or agencies in order to improve our knowledge of the drug markets, gaps and trends across Hampshire. The results should give us a better understanding of current and changing substance misuse so that we may provide more informed services.

Anyone who can provide information on local drug use and availability is asked to participate. The questionnaire will also be updated according to need - your feedback on format and content is also welcome. All responses will remain confidential and will be used to form a collated report of findings.

Thank you to all who supplied information towards the first drug market profile; it has proved to be a very worthwhile activity. A copy of the December 2008 Drug Market Profile responses is now available.

*Substance Misuse Strategic Review*

Hampshire DAAT is leading on a Strategic Review of Substance Misuse Services in Hampshire. The review has been prompted by a significant reduction in drugs funding over the next three years, the need to rationalise and consolidate the current commissioning arrangements and provide a robust commissioning strategy for both drugs and alcohol. Please follow the links for further information regarding the Strategic Review of Substance Misuse Services where we also welcome your feedback and comments.

Hepatitis in the UK

The Health Protection Agency Annual Report 2008 was published in December 2008.

This year marks a new milestone in the efforts to combat Hepatitis C infection across the United Kingdom. Following the publication of plans to prevent, diagnose and treat Hepatitis C in each country of the UK, they have extended the report to include work being carried out in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This is therefore the first UK report on Hepatitis C; we hope it will encourage the sharing of good practice across the country and help to provide a focus for professionals and patients.

Copies of the report can be accessed via the Health Protection Agency’s website at the following link: www.hpa.org.uk/hepc2008

National Drug Strategy

The new National Drug Strategy 2008-2018 was launched in February 2008 under the banner "Drugs: protecting families and communities". Its' principle aims are to restrict the supply of illegal drugs and reduce the demand for them, whilst focusing on protecting families and strengthening communities.

The national drug strategy comprises three key documents.
