Children's Centres
Children’s centres are a Government initiative to provide better outcomes for children, families and local communities. Children’s centres will act as a local hub for a wide range of integrated services. They are places where families can easily access a range of different services to support them, including:
- Information and advice on family support services
- Drop-in sessions for parents, carers and childminders
- Access to early education and childcare for children under five
- Access to child and family health services
- Links with Jobcentre Plus, further education and training opportunities
The Government is committed to delivering a Sure Start Children’s Centre for every community by 2010. Children’s Centres are a vital part of the Government’s 10 year childcare strategy to enable all families with children to have access to an affordable, flexible, high quality childcare place for their child.
Children’s Centres can be managed directly by the County Council, by the Governing Body of a school or by an external organisation. The roles available include Centre Manager/Co-ordinator; Family Support Outreach Worker; administrative and financial roles, cleaning roles.
