Welcome to the Hampshire EMA Service website
Hampshire Ethnic Minority Achievement Service is part of Children's Services of Hampshire County Council.
Our service aims to support schools and families across Hampshire in raising ethnic minority achievement, through bilingual assistance, projects, training and advisory support.
Additionally, we offer bilingual assistance to schools with newly arrived pupils for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL).
The team comprises Bilingual Assistants; Bilingual Assistant Managers, Specialist Teachers; Cross-cultural Counsellor; Resource and Project Managers; and is led by Team Leader, Dr Liz Statham, and supported by a small administrative team.
Hampshire Bilingual Learners Support Service (BLSS) began as a five year project in 1992; in 2001 it re-structured with the New Arrivals Strand and a newly created Achievement Projects Strand, being underpinned by the Training Strand. More recently BLSS celebrated its 10th birthday and now is to be known as the Hampshire Ethnic Minority Achievement Service. The service is joint funded by the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant (DfES) and Hampshire County Council.
