Hampshire Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)

Quiz

This quiz was designed for use during Refugee week but is of course relevant at any time.

SERASC (South of England Refugee and Asylum Seeker Council), in collaboration with several Ethnic Minority Achievement Services from the South of England has developed this exciting new web based quiz which allows pupils aged 9 to 16 to test their knowledge and improve their awareness of refugees and asylum seekers issues through a very modern medium.

The site allows the user to navigate a room (by clicking and dragging the arrows on each side of the screen) and by clicking on different elements of furniture (or other) he/she accesses information; clicking on the question mark reveals the question which relates directly to the information just read. For example, the “Fish and Chips” on the table leads to a question on who introduced them to Britain. The questions in the quiz are at two levels and we recommend you use the easier quiz for the younger age groups. When all the questions are answered, the user can print out his/her own refugee awareness certificate.

The quiz can be used directly by pupils as part of curriculum activities or the information can be used as resources for an assembly. We would also welcomed that the site address is made available for pupils to use at home or for parents to access.

Hampshire EMTAS is very pleased to introduce this resource and would encourage all junior and secondary schools to use it as well as to publicise it in their wider community.
