Pre-schools in Hampshire can refer newly-arrived bilingual or Traveller children to our service. Please phone our New Arrivals Manager on 01256 330195.You will be sent a self-referral form which should be completed and returned. This will be used to assess whether the child needs support at this stage or if support can be provided later when the child begins school. You may download this self-referral form Microsoft Word 73kb directly, complete it and return to the Basingstoke EMTAS office.

If the child is in Reception in a Hampshire LA school that has bought back into our service they will be entitled to our normal support. To access this please use this referral form Download Acrobat Reader to view this PDF 127kb or telephone the office as above.

Who are young bilingual learners?

Some pupils have already had pre-school experience and some exposure to English but there may be others who fall into the following categories:

  • pupils who have not attended nursery or any pre-school
  • pupils who are newly arrived in England
  • pupils who have just returned from an extended visit abroad
  • pupils who have attended pre-school in other areas or had intermittent pre-school experience
