Referrals
Making a referral to Hampshire EMTAS
Our New Arrivals Strand is co-ordinated through the Basingstoke Office. Schools should ring the New Arrivals Manager at the Basingstoke Office, as soon as they receive, or know they are about to receive a pupil, for whom English is an additional language. If you prefer, you can send information using a new arrival referral form
127kb.
We do not take referrals from parents, nor do we need their contact information, unless they need to be contacted by a Bilingual Assistant to discuss a forthcoming early profiling visit.

Other types of referral
Please see our Early Years information section if your newly-arrived pupil is in a pre-school.
Please see our Traveller information section if your pupil is of Traveller heritage.
What we will ask for
We will need basic information on the pupil - name, date of birth, year group, language, ethnic origin, date of arrival in the UK, when the pupil is going to start at the school, plus any relevant information on previous education and language acquisition. You will also need to nominate a School Contact, through whom Hampshire EMTAS can liaise.
Early profiling visit
Having made your referral you will be contacted by a bilingual assistant or specialist teacher within 2 weeks, to arrange a time for an early profiling visit, when an early profiling assessment will be made of the pupil's language skills and cognitive level.
