Our service
The Hampshire Ethnic Minority & Traveller Achievement Service (Hampshire EMTAS) is part of Children's Services within Hampshire County Council. The service's vision is to raise achievement of ethnic minority pupils including those for whom English is an additional language by providing support to schools and parents across Hampshire. The service achieves this through training, achievement projects, specialist teaching and bilingual assistance.. The service supports newly arrived pupils and families with the knowledge, skill and understanding they require to participate on equal terms in all areas of the curriculum while maintaining cultural identity. The service assists in the promotion of home-school links and parental involvement. The service staff work alongside school staff to promote race equality and tackle racism.
The service is funded by Hampshire Local Authority (LA), and the DCSF through the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant (EMAG) until March 2011. Additionally the service receives external funding for a range of projects.
