CRB Umbrella Body Service
For some organisations with a legitimate requirement to have access to criminal records information, separate registration may not be appropriate for reasons of practicality or costs. They may, however, be able to gain access to the information they require by asking another, registered, organisation to countersign applications for Disclosures on their behalf.
An Umbrella Body is one which has registered with the Criminal Records Bureau on the basis that it will countersign disclosure applications on behalf of others who are not registered.
As part of Hampshire County Council, Payroll & Contract Support Services (PCSS) is registered with the Bureau as a part of its personnel support activities for Hampshire schools. The Pay & Contract Support Services can act as an Umbrella Body to unregistered bodies who have a legitimate need for such disclosure in that their work brings them into supervised/unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults.
The links on the left provide more information on the background to the CRB and the practicalities of using PCSS to obtain a CRB check.
