Hampshire Governor Services

RE in the Primary Curriculum [GS126]

Who will benefit? All governors from infant, junior and primary schools

What will you learn? These events look at an area of the school curriculum so governors may be well informed about current issues. Inspectors or other tutors will present curriculum topics relevant to the responsibilities of governors. The topic this year will be religious education (RE). Since the 1944 Education Act schools have had the responsibility to teacher RE to all pupils. This has been re-emphasised in all Education Acts since. This course will provide details on the governing body's responsibilities with regard to RE. In Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight, Local Authority schools must follow the locally agree syllabus, living difference III. This training will also help governors understand how RE enables schools to promote children's Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development and prepare children for life in Modern Britain contributing to the promotion of british values and preventing violent extremism.
