14 March 2015 - Hampshire Music Service, Southern Sinfonia, University of Winchester and Foundation Music team up for choral WW1 remembrance event at Winchester Cathedral!

Conflict to Chorus

"...a radically musically inclusive performance featuring local community choirs, Hampshire schools, The Southern Sinfonia, choirs from the University of Winchester, a Singing-for-Wellbeing choir, a school for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties plus soloists".

Featuring a world premiere of a new work by Rev Prof June Boyce-Tillman MBE:

'From Conflict to Chorus; An intermezzo for Peace'

  • Double Reed Day

For oboists and bassoonists of all standards, including beginners!
Sunday 22 March 2015, 10am - 4pm

Double Reed Day

For all double reed players, up to the age of 18, who are beginners right up to Grade 8+ standard and live in, have lessons or indeed attend a school/college in Hampshire.

We have some very inspirational guests:
Ruth Bolister, Principal oboist of the English National Opera
John Orford, Principal bassoon player of the London Sinfonietta.

Well worth the £10 entry fee!

Howarth of London (oboe and bassoon specialists) will also be visiting us with instruments, music and accessories.

During the day participants will be able to get involved in activities such as ensemble playing, listening to recitals and participating or listening to masterclasses. There will be an end of day concert at 3.00pm in which all participants will be involved in an ensemble performance.

Children who are considering starting to play either the oboe or the bassoon will be welcome to attend the morning sessions free of charge.

  • Hampshire County Youth Orchestra - Open Day

Saturday 28 March 2015, 10.15am - 2.30pm,
Thornden School Concert Hall, Chandler’s Ford

Thinking of joining the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra or County Youth String Orchestra? Come along to join in and see what it’s all about!


  • Play alongside current members, meet other players, and take part in a short informal performance for parents at 2.00pm

  • All welcome, including teachers and parents: come along and experience the excitement of playing alongside some of Hampshire’s best young musicians. We will be performing music from our current repertoire which will include Mahler 1st Symphony and Conga del Fuego by Marquez

  • Orchestral musicians welcome – including harps and percussion. Strings grade 4+ / wind,  brass, percussion grade 7 +

  • If you are unable to come along, but would like to audition later this term, do get in touch.
