County Ensemble Information and Applications

The County music ensembles build on and extend the opportunities available in Hampshire’s 50+ area groups. County ensembles provide very high quality performing opportunities for Hampshire’s most able young musicians. Each group has a full schedule of rehearsals and concerts and a high level of commitment is required. You are welcome to visit rehearsals for any of these ensembles before deciding whether to apply.

Hampshire Music Service provides instumental and vocal teaching to over 29,000 pupils every week and offers a range of ensembles, from beginner groups to county ensembles. County ensemble membership is charged at £35 per term and you can be part of as many area ensembles as you wish at no additional cost.

Membership

Membership is open to young people up to the age of 19, who are in full-time education at school/college/home. Priority will be given first to Hampshire residents, and then to non-Hampshire residents attending Hampshire schools and colleges. You may also apply for membership of more than one ensemble.

You can apply for the county Orchestras and Wind Ensembles, who formally hold auditions at the end of the summer term (application deadline: typically the end of May). You may apply for membership on more than one instrument, but please complete a separate application for each. The form will appear on this page in March/April.

The Bands, Folk Ensemble and Choirs are open to members throughout the academic year.

Please contact Hampshire Music Service for further information on 023 8065 2037 or e-mail: music.service@hants.gov.uk
