Andy, an ex-Hampshire Music Service student himself, and former drummer with chart-topping band Razorlight, led drum clinics with Hampshire Music Service students, exploring technique, band membership, improvisation and equipment.
These drum clinics formed part of a varied and comprehensive programme throughout the day. As Andy pointed out, The Hampshire Rocks! day is a fantastic opportunity for these children to improve on what they already know, and to see what other types of music and styles there are. WithRock, Jazz, Latin, Taiko, African and Samba techniques on offer, the students will be able to stretch themselves, and try things they normally wouldn't play.”
In the afternoon four established student bands were coached by Andy for an evening performance in front of a packed crowd, with Andy contributing his own acoustic set as well. Andy said, Music is really important for our children – it teaches them to focus, improves their social skills, and helps develop their confidence. Children need continued support, like the Hampshire Rocks! event, to carry on developing and growing.”

Commenting on his own time as a Hampshire Music Service student Andy added, "The Hampshire County Youth Band was great because I was amongst other people who felt as passionately about music as I did.”
There was a retiring collection for Naomi House House (www.naomihouse.org.uk), of which Andy Burrows is a patron, and over £90 was collected.
