Ex-HMS student drums for rising band ‘til Dusk

Hampshire County Council’s Music Service recently caught up with Tom Ross, drummer with up-and-coming band ‘til Dusk and ex-Hampshire Music Service student.

Tom started drumming at the age of four with a small kit that his Grandma bought him for Christmas but soon progressed to lessons at school. Tom believes he was lucky to start music so early, adding, their age is the most valuable asset that young children have.”

A major development was joining the Hampshire County Junior Band where he extended his skills to include timpani and xylophone. Tom talks warmly of his time with the Hampshire Music Service ensemble and says that, It taught me a lot, that ‘not to play’ is important as well and not to show off all the time!”

Tom also went on a residential course with the Hampshire County Junior Band where he was taught by Andy Burrows, ex-Razorlight drummer and himself an HMS alumni.

‘til Dusk, who are currently unsigned, have just brought out their debut album ‘Cold Lust’ which has been described as ... sticking 1985 Dire Straits in a DeLorean and programming in 2011,” a reference to the 80s film Back to the Future”. A sign that things are hotting up for the band is that they have been signed up to support Roger Daltrey (lead singer with The Who) for gigs at Broadlands Festival in Romsey and Blickling Hall in Norfolk later this month.
