Advanced skills teachers (ASTs)
ASTs are teachers who have reached standards of excellence in their profession. They work as classroom teachers for 80 per cent of their time but also work to raise standards of teaching and learning more generally
The primary purpose of a managed network of Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs) in Hampshire is to support excellence in the classroom with learners and to enhance the LAs capacity to promote and maintain best practice in its schools. All ASTs who receive funding from the LA have their outreach activities managed by their professional leader. You should approach the County AST Co-ordinator in the first instance if you wish to access support of an AST.
Full details of the role of ASTs in Hampshire are detailed in the LA Policy for Supporting the Appointment and Deployment of Advanced Skills Teachers
For information on the strategic direction of AST practice in Hampshire please contact Jeff Stanfield, County AST Inspector/Adviser. Alternatively, you can download the Primary and Secondary lists of ASTs working in Hampshire schools from our website.
