Course content

• an introduction to all the basic skills required for successfully handling a canal boat
• risk assessment and risk management routines and strategies, regulations and guidance
• individual and group management issues and suggestions
• the preparation and planning of programmes
• an assessment of the leader’s competence to act as a skipper, assistant or crew member.

Course objectives

• to successfully complete the syllabus and requirements of the leaders award
• to produce a clear insight into necessary regulations and risk management procedures
• to provide clear guidance on group management and activity planning.
