Problem solving, team building and initiative training

Outdoor Education has long been involved in these aspects of a young person’s personal development. Many such games and activities do not require advanced equipment and are readily available to schools, colleges and youth groups, if the staff are appropriately trained. The secret is in how to use the activities and not just how to organise them.

Possible target groups:

  1. youth workers and voluntary leaders working with groups of young people
  2. teachers involved in key skill and/or personal and social development of particular groups (see primary and secondary curriculum section)
  3. physical education specialists delivering ‘outdoor and adventurous activities’.
