Kite flying (power kites)

Experience this exciting activity and discover why it is becoming increasingly popular with youth groups and schools as a method of engaging with young people.

No previous experience is necessary and all equipment is provided.

This course is specifically for kite flying with a group of young people.  £35 for training.

As with many adventurous activities there are various associated disciplines, such as kite buggying and kite surfing. Approval, indemnification and insurance cannot be given as these activities are of an individual tuition nature and it is not a group activity.

This is an introductory course. Following this day, participants will be expected to consolidate their learning and experience, leading to a later assessment and qualification.

Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, notepad and pen, and wear suitable clothing for a relatively short outdoor session.

Course objectives

At the end of the course participants will:

  • understand and demonstrate safe practice in the assembly of power kites

  • become aware of safe flying zones and associated group management

  • be more confident and competent in flying and controlling a range of power kites

  • have an increase in knowledge relating to kite flying areas and access

  • appreciate the benefits of kite flying when working with young people.
