Reduce your school's energy bill

There is much potential to reduce your school's energy use, simply by changing the way you use energy. Saving energy will cut your energy costs and reduce your carbon footprint.

Your school plays a major part in achieving the County Council's ambitious but achievable target to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2015. Schools contribute to 60% of it's carbon footprint.

Here are some ways to reduce your school's energy use:

• Have a clear energy goal

• Calculate your school's carbon

• Implement a school energy policy

• Involve your staff and students in energy saving work:

  • have an Energy Saving Champion at your school

  • promote top tips on how to reduce energy use

• Regularly review your school energy policy and report the successes keep people motivated

• Make improvements to your buildings to make them more energy efficient

• Use your smart meters

• Manage your heating, cooling and lighting systems effectively

• Use ICT equipment efficiently
