School energy matters

Schools Carbon Management Group

Every year schools spend around £11 million on energy. That’s around 60% of the whole of the County Council’s energy bill and its carbon footprint.

Recognising the importance of cost saving to schools, the County Council’s Property Services has established a dedicated Schools Carbon Management Group to focus on supporting schools with their own energy saving plans.

The Group, which meets once a term, is chaired by Steve Clow, Assistant Director of Property Services. The primary, secondary and special school sectors are all represented as well as school governors

Providing support for schools is important in helping colleagues understand, manage and reduce their energy consumption. Several representatives of Property Services are on the Group to provide technical support and advice to schools.
