School energy matters

Air conditioning inspections

Government legislation requires all air conditioning systems greater than 12kW to be inspected by an approved energy assessor. Schools, as operators of this equipment, must have an energy inspection for each installation to comply with this legislation.

In schools, systems include small air conditioning systems, food related refrigeration systems, and a number of larger systems. Our records show that there are an estimated 600 air conditioning units in secondary schools and 700 in primary schools.

Currently, inspections are a one-off arrangement as the Government has not yet made this a periodic inspection.
