What could you do with an old plastic bottle?

To keep down on litter and landfill, we all try our best to recycle our rubbish. When we recycle plastic bottles they could be turned into:

  • A new bottle
  • Plastic pipes
  • Bin Bags
  • Garden furniture
  • Fleeces

Here are some fun ways you could reuse an old plastic bottle at home. If you try any of our ideas out, why not e-mail us a photo of your masterpieces.

Bowling

Decorate 10 bottles, with paint or paper and glue, to make your skittles. Use a tennis ball, or something similar, to knock down as many skittles as you can. Try adding water in the bottles to make it more difficult.

Bird Feeder

Ask a parent to help you. First cut a small hole in the bottom of the bottle and slide in a small piece of dowel. This will be for the bird to perch on. Cut a slit across the bottle at about the height a bird will feed. Push the top part inward, this will allow the bird to access the seed but it will only come out as the bird eats. Fill with seed and screw on the cap. Tie a line to the top of the bottle to allow you to tie it to a tree.

Storage Pots

You can use plastic bottles to store all kind of things. Use them to look after your pencils, small game pieces, loose change or much more. Decorate your bottle to make it more fun.

Maracas

Place some dry rice or mustard seeds into the bottle. Screw on the lid. Make sure you decorate your maraca, then start shaking.

CD Rack

Take a bottle and decorate it, stick to a music theme to make it look great. Ask an adult to help cut small slices into the bottle. Cut two thirds of the way through, making sure the bottom remains joined. Now stick your CDs in to keep them tidy.
