Which Local Authority employees qualify for the Key Worker Living scheme?
Qualified teachers in grant maintained primary, secondary or special schools must:
- Be permanent employees
- Be unable to buy a home suitable for their household needs within reasonable travelling distance to their place of work
- Have indefinite leave either to enter or to remain in the UK (excluding keyworkers from member states of the EU/EEA)
- Have a combined household income that does not exceed £60k.
- Be a first time buyer or existing home owner who needs larger homes to meet their household needs
- Sell their existing property if they own one.
Further education teachers must meet all of the criteria listed above in addition to being:
- Employed in an Further Education (FE) sector institution (general FE college, sixth form college, art, drama, performing arts college, agriculture and horticulture college or tertiary college) or a non FE sector independent specialist college providing further education for persons with learning difficulties and/or disabilities; or employed in a FE teaching post in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in England; and receiving funding from Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
- Qualified in line with, or at the time of their application attending, a course leading to a FE teaching qualification as defined by the Further Education Teachers' Qualifications (England) Regulation 2001 - including schools based Qualified Teacher Status.

They will be able to provide information about all the schemes available for local keyworkers trying to find a home to rent or to buy in this area and can advise you whether or not you are eligible for the scheme.
