Rest Centres
In partnership with the District Authorities, the Emergency Planning Unit select in advance certain buildings for use as a ‘Rest Centre’ during an incident where it is necessary to evacuate residents from their home or workplace. The Rest Centre is staffed by premises staff and members of the ASSIST (Social Services) teams with support from the voluntary sector - such as the WRVS. The Rest Centre will be used for up to 24 hours, after which time temporary shelter will be sought.

The Emergency Planning Unit conduct Health & Safety assessments as well as assessments to ensure access is not discriminatory in terms of Disability and Equalities legislation.
The Emergency Planning Unit are also responsible for the training and exercising of premises staff, voluntary agencies that provide support and Social Services teams that manage and provide care.
