Safety at Sports Grounds
Designated Grounds
These are sports grounds that in the opinion of the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport has accommodation for more than 10,000 spectators, or 5,000 in the case of a Premiership or Football League grounds in England or Wales.
The primary legislation covering "Designated Grounds" is the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975
Regulated Stands
A stand is considered to be "Regulated" if it has a covered capacity in excess of 500 people.
The primary legislation covering "Regulated Stands" is the Fire Safety and Safety at Places of Sport Act 1987
The Department for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport has issued guidance on the subject, "A Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds' (known as the Green Guide).
Policy
Following its adoption in 2009, the Safety at Sports Ground Policy has been reviewed and updated.
