Corporate Equalities Strategy - Quality through equality

Foreword

Equality, Justice and Fairness are the bedrock of public services.

For several years Hampshire County Council has committed itself to a policy of equality of opportunity and has implemented a number of initiatives in support of this policy.

While an organisation's approach to equalities may be visible through its equalities policies, strategies and procedures, making equalities a meaningful part of the organisation's culture is harder to achieve. Success can be measured in the quality of outcomes for staff and customers and how the organisation performs against equalities-related standards and targets.

Identifying specific areas for improvement through consultation and use of management information is an important aspect of a comprehensive approach. The Best Value initiative heralds new challenges for equality which will provide further opportunities to focus on our performance.

This strategy document sets out our vision for equalities. It demonstrates in a coherent and structured way the County Council's commitment to continue to provide the best services for all the people of the County.
