As a service provider and employer, the County Council is committed to equality, fairness and justice. The County Council acknowledges the need to take such actions as achieve full access to its services for all groups and individuals.
This strategy document describes how the County Council intends to deal with equalities issues. Its approach to equalities covers rights and opportunities in respect of disabilities, race, gender, age, sexuality, as well as issues of social exclusion arising from poverty or rural isolation.
The importance of equalities to all aspects of County Council services is reflected in the way this document has been produced. Wide consultation has led to specific actions and priorities being identified against the overall Corporate Strategy.
Although this is the County Council's first equalities strategy, it builds on many years of experience and commitment and includes existing policies and practices. This Strategy will be continuously reviewed and improved and will benefit from continued consultation with user groups.
