Roles and Responsibilities

The effective delivery of equalities rests with senior and line-managers with advice from local Personnel teams and the Equalities team.

The following responsibilities will be discharged as far as is reasonably practicable.

Elected members will

:

  • promote equalities

  • ensure that adequate resources are available to discharge the County Council's legal responsibilities in terms of supporting equality of opportunity.

The Corporate Management Team will

:

  • serve as a role model

  • provide direction and endorse corporate equalities strategies

  • encourage the integration of equalities into all aspects of departmental work

  • actively promote equalities issues/ actions within departments.

Managers will

:

  • demonstrate commitment to equalities by promoting them within their everyday roles, for themselves and for their staff

  • identify appropriate training needs and provide training opportunities

  • monitor the effectiveness of equalities policies and programmes in their areas

  • encourage the provision of appropriate information, instruction and supervision.

Staff will

:

  • be encouraged to demonstrate commitment to equalities by taking active steps to challenge discrimination and disadvantage

  • support managers in the development and implementation of equalities

  • undertake appropriate training on equalities to meet their duties.

Clients and contractors will

:

  • comply with the County Council's equalities policy and principles in all dealings with and/or on behalf of the County Council and the community of Hampshire.
