Corporate Equalities Strategy - Quality through equality

The Strategy

The purpose of the Equalities Strategy

  1. The primary objective of this strategy is to ensure that the County Council has a coherent and strategic approach to equalities issues. This is essential to the effective management of services and its performance as a whole. It relates to the Best Value approach to public services and concurs with the Audit Commission's "Best Value Performance Indicators".

  2. Secondly, the strategy aims to help the County Council build equalities issues into planning, implementation and review processes at all levels.

Key elements of the Equalities Strategy

The strategy provides a focus for strategic and day-to-day management of equalities issues within the County Council, providing a framework for:

  • reviewing and monitoring County Council policies and practices;

  • making appropriate changes, improving or maintaining best practice. Ensuring that equalities issues become part of best practice and explicit elements of the County Council's strategic and day-to-day work;

  • placing a requirement on all departments to produce and implement regular action plans and tackle areas of inequality within their scope of responsibilities.
