There is an Air Quality Management Area in Lyndhurst because annual mean levels of nitrogen dioxide exceed health standards mainly because of queuing traffic No-one has shown that the levels are having an effect on health...but because the health based standards are exceeded it is inferred that there may be an effect on health and it would be reasonable to try and reduce the levels.. The question is whether the by-pass will have any positive effect on NO2 levels and hence on health It is impossible to predict because I don't believe the effect of the bypass on traffic flows and volume has been modelled There may be other ways of reducing traffic in Lyndhurst which would have an effect on NO2 I note that ecologist don't think that the by-pass will have a deleterious effect on the local ecology Is this helpful?
