  • Tadley Library
  • 7:30pm Wednesday 24 Jan 2018
  • The Life of Robert Burns and the Annual Tradition of the Burns' Supper: Discover the extraordinary short life of Burns along with recitations, demonstration and explanation of the traditions of the Burns' suppers.

Bill Copland will explain why Burns' means so much to Scots, exploring some of the Scots language used and the subject matter of Burns' varied works.

Bill was born and raised in Ayrshire, used to stand outside the famous Burns' Cottage to wait for the school bus each morning and played rugby at Millbrae in Alloway overlooked by Burns' Monument. So from the Tam o' Shanter bar to the Auld Brig over the river Doon, he was brought up with the sights and sounds of Burns all around him.

He speaks many times each year at Burns' Suppers from small private gatherings to Grand Military Events as well as on Radio Berkshire at this time of year. He also plays the bagpipes with the Reading Scottish Pipe Band and is currently leading a project to recruit and develop a junior band.

Places are limited so advance booking is essential.
