Workplace Zones

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the 2011 Census workplace zone data in July 2014. The workplace zone is an entirely new geography that offers a more appropriate spatial representation and analysis on where people work. The workplace zone population includes workers that both live and work in the workplace zone and, workers that in-commute from beyond the workplace zone. The rationale for the workplace zone was to better understand the spatial distributions of working populations where the majority of all economic activity occurs.
