Informing our Future

The 2010 edition of 'informing our future' is the ninth in a series. It was produced by the University of Portsmouth on behalf of the Research and Intelligence task group of the Hampshire Economic Partnership.

The aim of the 2010 report was to:

Collate and disseminate information and research related to the Hampshire economy

Inform the debate regarding business needs within the County

Identify these needs and consider how they might best be met.

The report also covers the results of a business survey of 300 Hampshire businesses carried out to better understand the impacts of the recent recession.

Site Assesment Study 2009

This latest report updates the ‘Employment Land in Hampshire Large Site Assessment Study 2006’ commissioned by Hampshire Economic Partnership (HEP). That study and this revision examine employment land provision from a market perspective through a reliable market-based assessment of Hampshire’s portfolio of large employment sites. The purpose of the work is to inform the preparation of regional and local planning policies, in particular to ensure that sites allocated for employment development meet modern business requirements.

Buiness Reaction

Following on from the business survey HEP has undertaken further research to explore the reactions of private sector to the recession. Many firms are adapting to the current circumstances and some have even grown their business. This research highlights the sectoral differences and the ways of adaptation, e.g. by refocusing on customers' needs, minimising waste and being proactive about new opportunities.
