Change in spending
The County Council's budget is that part of its expenditure funded by general Government grant (22%) and council tax (78%).
In 2008/09 the County Council expects to spend £1,655 million on services compared with £1,570 million in 2007/08. After deducting specific grants, including the schools grant, and income from fees and charges, the County Council has set a budget of £643 million. This is an increase of 4.4% after adjusting for funding changes.
