Investing in the future
In 2009/10, we will spend £85 million on school building, capital repairs and other Children’s Services' projects including £11 million on a new special school in Totton, £21 million on minor projects managed by the schools themselves and £14 million on early years and childcare.
£24 million will be spent on capital repairs of schools and other buildings.
£46 million will be spent within the Environment service, consisting of £42 million to improve Hampshire’s local transport infrastructure and on the structural maintenance of roads, footways and bridges, £2 million for environmental improvements and £2 million on waste management projects. Significant projects starting in 2009/10 include the provision of a new park and ride facility for Winchester, and measures to reduce congestion and improve access to Southampton Airport and its railway station.
The Recreation and Heritage programme includes the Heritage Lottery funded project to renovate the barn and stables at Basing House and the surrounding grounds.
Work will be completed on the refurbishment of the north and west blocks of Ashburton Court.
£7 million will be spent on capital repairs and improvements to Adult Social Care facilities. This includes nearly £3 million which will fund both investment in additional extra care housing, including new build and maintain the programme of improvements in residential homes and day centres.
