County Treasurer's

Investing in the future

In 2010/11 we will spend £109 million on school buildings and other Children’s Services projects, including work on a new primary school in Andover; minor projects managed by schools themselves, the third phase of the programme to establish children’s centres across the county and support to the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector in Early Years and Childcare provision.

£17 million will be spent on capital repairs of schools and other buildings.

£63 million will be spent within the Environment service, consisting of £59 million to improve Hampshire’s local transport infrastructure and on the structural maintenance of roads, footways and bridges, £2 million for environmental improvements and £2 million on waste management projects. Significant projects being carried out in 2010/11 include the South East Hampshire Bus Rapid Transit Phase 1 Busway between Fareham and Gosport, and the measures on the slip roads and approaches to Junction 5 of the M27 to reduce congestion and improve access to Southampton Airport and its railway station. Both were started in 2009/10 and are expected to be completed towards the end of 2010/11.

The Culture, Communities and Rural Affairs programme includes over £6 million of external funding to build and develop the Runways End Youth Activity Centre which is to provide a modern youth adventure activity centre to include a broad range of outdoor and adventurous activities with residential facilities.

£8 million will be spent on capital repairs and improvements to Adult Social Care facilities. This includes nearly £1 million which will fund both investment in additional Extra Care housing by contributing towards new build schemes. £3 million will be spent to maintain the programme of improvements in existing County residential homes and day centres and £3.5 million on IT development of which £1.6 million is a grant funded project to develop innovative ways of sharing health and social care information.
