Investment in the future - capital spending

In 2003/04, we will spend £62m on school building projects, including extensions to primary school at Elvetham Heath and St Mark's in Basingstoke, and to secondary schools at Alton, Fareham and Gosport. We will spend £4m on social care projects including the replacement and improvement of the systems used to manage social services, and £59m to improve transport, roads and the environment throughout Hampshire. We will also invest in recreation and heritage facilities to make them more attractive for users. Overall, our capital spending in 2003/04 will be £140m.

In 2002/03, we completed the new John Hanson Community School in Andover and provided new premises for the learning disabilities resource centre in Alton. Capital spending in total was over £150m.
