Hampshire County Council provides over 1,240,000 people with vital everyday services including education, social care, roads, waste management, libraries, country parks and museums. It is our job to deliver these services in an open and cost-effective way, acting in the best interests of Hampshire and its citizens as a whole.

Looks after over 4,200 older people in residential homes
Maintains over 5,200 miles of roads
Subsidises 5.7 million passenger bus journeys
Maintains more than 140,000 street lights
Delivers youth work through 166 different projects
Welcomes over 7.5 million visitors to our libraries
Conserves 11,000 acres of countryside
Recycles 171,000 tonnes of rubbish
Answers 25,000 Trading Standards enquiries
Conducts 4,000 marriages
Registers 6,000 births
Your council tax helps to pay for these and many other essential services.
After consulting Hampshire residents, the Leader and Cabinet propose how much and where spending is needed. The 74 councillors who have been elected to represent the people of Hampshire make the final decision.
