Flooding and flood water management in Hampshire

Coastal flooding and coastal erosion

As part of Hampshire County Council's responsibilities as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), it is taking an overview role to all forms of flooding in Hampshire.

The management of the risks of coastal flooding and coastal erosion is the responsibility of the Environment Agency and the Maritime Local Authorities.

However the Act stresses the need for risk to be managed in a co-ordinated way across river catchments and along the coast, and the need for local decision-making so these forms of flooding and erosion will be taken into account in the Local Flood Risk Strategy, which is being produced by Hampshire County Council.

Hampshire County Council is taking a proactive joined up approach and is working very closely with both the Environment Agency and also the Maritime Local Authorities regarding coastal flooding and coastal erosion.
