Flooding and flood water management in Hampshire

Flood Risk Register

In 2010, the Government passed a new Act, the Flood and Water Management Act, which identifies a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) to establish and maintain a register of structures or features which, in the opinion of the authority, are likely to have a significant effect on a flood risk in its area.

LLFAs arrange for the register to be available for inspection at all reasonable times. The Act allows discretion for LLFAs to determine what they consider to be “significant” and how they go about implementing this.

Hampshire County Council is currently compiling its Flood Risk Register. At this stage it contains mainly information on assets owned by the County Council. It will be expanded to cover other relevant assets during the coming months and will be continually updated as a ‘living’ register of assets.
