Hampshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy consultation

The Hampshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) is an important new tool to help individuals, communities, businesses and authorities understand and manage flood risk within the county. Its primary focus is on local flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary water courses such as streams and ditches.

Whilst Hampshire County Council is responsible for producing the LFRMS we wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to influence how we manage local flooding in Hampshire now and in the future.

In order to achieve this the County Council produced a draft LFRMS. However, we recognise that this is just a first draft to be amended and refined following your input. Our Summary provides an overview of the main elements of the LFRMS.

Our flood records

A key part of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is the assessment of current and future flood risk. A series of maps have been produced to show different types of flooding and flood risk. We asked Hampshire residents to look at the maps where they live to see if we can make them more accurate.

 

The Strategic Environmental Assessment

A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is an important part of the overall process of developing the LFRMS. The SEA is a process for considering what the potential environmental impacts of addressing local flooding issues might be.

 

Habitats Regulations Assessment

In addition to carrying out a Strategic Environmental Assessment scoping the Council has also prepared a Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) which considers the potential impact of the LFRMS on protected habitats and species.

The HRA has been revised to take on board comments of the statutory consultees.
