Farley Mount Country Park

On the downs a few miles west of Winchester lies Farley Mount Country Park, a large area of open country and woods, including chalk down grass land, Forestry Commission plantation and Crabwood which is Ancient woodland Local Nature Reserve. The Clarendon Way long distance footpath runs through the site and at the highest point there is a pyramid shaped folly that gives the park its name. Many groups begin their day's activities exploring the wider countryside by meeting at the Park, and moving on to use the extensive system of all types of Rights of Way that surround the area.

The Country park is open 24 hours a day, all year round and is free to enter. Some areas may have temporary restrictions eg. West Wood during forestry operations. Warning signs are posted at these times.

Crabwood car park is popular with visitors wishing to use a level, mown, grass area for picnics and ball games or wanting to barbeque on the free to use family grill. Entry to the woodland Nature Reserve is best from here, with further roadside parking to the East, in Lanham Lane.

Pitt Down is a naturally undulating chalk grass area, that is generally dry underfoot, linking many car parks to West Wood. This area is popular on windy days for kite flying. There are hard surfaced tracks from Beech Clump and Hawthorns car parks, to the Monument and West Wood, enabling easier going for push chair and wheel chair users.

Cyclist and horse riders are asked to follow the marked bridleway that dissects the park and links to further routes in the surrounding countryside.
