Agriculture and Animal Health
Agriculture and Animal Health - Introduction

The department's officers visit animal feed manufacturers and suppliers to ensure that feed is safe and of merchantable quality. We take samples and check labelling to ensure that feed is labelled correctly and contains the levels of nutrients claimed. Samples are also taken to ensure that feed is not contaminated with any undesirable substances.
Our Animal Health Officers regularly visit farms, abattoirs, and transit points to check that the health of livestock is maintained. Movement control records are kept so that animals can be quickly traced in the event of an outbreak of serious notifiable disease, such as foot and mouth or swine fever.
