A. Activity Cards
- These incorporate activities for the students on a range of subjects, including understanding food labels, understanding the importance of reducing the amount of salt, fat and sugar in the diet, and understanding the importance of a balanced diet. Each activity card also provides additional internet activities to enable further development of the subject area
- There are eight activity cards for key stage 3 and eight for key stage 4

B. Information Cards
- These are reference materials for the students, and comprise, in general, one side of A4. They have been designed to support the activity cards
- There are eight information cards for key stage 3 and eight for key stage 4

C. Teachers Notes
These are separated into two subject areas, and comprise the following details:
Unit 1: Legislation
- The legislation that exists to control food that is sold
- Brief details of the Food Safety Act including the definition of food, what constitutes unsafe food and the offences under sections 14 and 15
Specific details regarding the general labelling requirement in regulation 5 of the Food Labelling Regulations, as well as information regarding claims, misleading descriptions and nutrition labelling, with examples illustrating the various points made. The roles of Trading Standards Officers and Environmental Health Officers are also explained in general terms
Unit 2: Nutrition & Health Promotion
- Why we need to eat a healthy diet, which incorporates the Balance of Good Health model
- Healthy eating for young people, covering all the major nutrients and why they are important for the body
- The role of salt, fat and sugar in the diet, with advice on how the quantities of these can be reduced in the diet. This area also implements the work already carried out by the Service in relation to the production of literature on understanding food labels and maintaining a healthy diet, and links in with a credit card sized table showing what constitutes a lot and a little salt, fat and sugar in foodstuffs, and the guideline daily amounts for calories, fat and sodium
- 5 a day for fruit and vegetables
- The values of different foods, in terms of the calories and sugars, and the calories in an average portion of certain foods that may be popular with teenagers

D. Lesson Plans
Suggested lesson plans for teachers to use, detailing the lesson objectives, resources needed, suggested activities, extension work and guidance on how to run the various activities, as well as providing details of the relevant pages in the teachers notes which relate to that lesson
