The Council also has its own food testing laboratory at Hampshire Scientific Service. The primary aim is to help protect the public by utilising accredited scientific testing facilities. It provides a statutory Public Analyst Service for the County Council in order to enforce food and agriculture safety laws. Each year our scientists test over 800 food samples from Hampshire food businesses. Nearly 40% do not satisfy food labelling or compositional standards. It also checks all school meal items against ingredients lists and specifications including tests for genetically modified food.
