Way of the Warrior

A collection of arms, armour and costume from some of the most popular historical blockbuster movies ever made.

This exhibition illustrates the development of armour and personal arms over the last 2500 years through film costume, images and interactive activities. It tells the stories of warriors depicted in popular culture from Gladiator to Alexander, Saving Private Ryan to Black Hawk Down.

Featuring replica armour and real ‘screen-used’ props, it is truly a hands-on experience for all the family. Visitors will get the chance to handle and try on replica armour such as helmets, gauntlets and shields.

Special Exhibition Events

Don’t miss our free family events in June “War Craft” where children can make their own helmet and shield, and “Combat in the High Street” with a demonstration of combat and marital arts.

Marine Art Paintings by Colin M. Baxter

7 July to 11 August

New works by renowned Gosport artist Colin M. Baxter.

Many pieces have been created which have special resonance this year -

• paintings of the mighty J Class yachts to celebrate the 2012 Regatta
• pictures recalling the ships that left for the Falklands War of 30 years ago,
• works inspired by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee that feature Royal Yachts and Reviews of days gone by
• and pieces celebrating 150 years of P&O Lines.

There will also be local Gosport views along with other examples of the artist’s work.

About the Gallery

Gosport Gallery hosts a wide variety of exhibitions and events from shows of the finest local artists to exhibitions drawing on the rich museum collections held by Gosport and Hampshire. It is fast becoming a regional venue for major exhibitions on loan from our national museums and collections. Events range from theatrical productions to fun-days, talks to art workshops.

The Gallery is a bright welcoming exhibition space located in the historic former assembly hall of Gosport Grammar School. Whilst maintaining several of the original features such as the floor and the balcony, it has been renovated to the highest standards to allow secure display of items of national importance.
