General Hazard Information for KS1 & KS2 Led Sessions
Your session leader will issue basic safety instructions to the class on arrival. Please see Adult Helper Notes for role of adults on the trip.
- During this session the museum will remain open to members of the public. Please ensure your children are organised into groups and remain with an adult supervisor with them at all times. We recommend an adult to child ratio of 1: 9 for KS2, with a minimum of 4 adults, and an adult to child ratio of 1 to 6 for KS1 with a minimum of 6 adults per class.
- Use of scissors, pencils, pens, paper, glue and card for make and take activities. Each group using these will be supervised by an adult helper from the school on a ratio of no more than 1:9. Scissors standard school style. All resources are from County Supplies so meet stringent safety standards and are suitable for use by schoolchildren.
- Potential of Crowding, particularly during movement around gallery areas. Movement will be supervised by session leader with help from school adult helpers.
- Be aware of trip and slip hazards e.g. step stools, slippery floors. The floor in the coffee shop area and resources room can be slippery, especially during wet weather. Please remind children not to run around and take care on steps, stools and floors.
- Children will be handling some real objects and some may be wearing costumes during the session. Please ensure we are aware of any potential allergies prior to your visit e.g. fur, washing powder. Please talk to your class about how to handle objects, and caring for clothes, both of which have to survive to be used by other classes.
- In the unlikely event of an accident occurring, please report it to the leader running the session as soon as possible, so that an accident report can be filed.
