Learning and careers
There are quiet areas for study and research, with expert staff on hand to help you find what you need.
The Learning Suite
Take advantage of free online courses in our fully equipped learning suite on the first floor, or come along to one of our exciting Discovery Sessions. Online courses are provided by Learndirect in computers, office skills and self development. Many courses are flexible, and can be adapted to suit your individual learning needs. For more information contact a member of staff or visit Learndirect. Discovery Sessions take place once a month in the learning suite from 10am to 12 noon and are open to anyone. There's no fee, but pre- booking is essential.
Careers
You can visit the Careers and Learning section of the Discovery Centre to find out about a vast array of lifelong learning opportunities, from career changing to volunteering. You can also get help with completing your UCAS form, viewing prospectuses or writing a CV.
If you're looking for courses, go to Next Step for information, advice or guidance on what's available locally. You can also meet with a trained advisor at the Discovery Centre for careers and learning advice - just ask a member of staff if you want to make a booking.
Resources
We have thousands of books and reference materials, as well as 40 internet terminals, including quick-access terminals if you are in a hurry.
The Local Studies Centre, opposite the main Discovery Centre building, also has books, photographs, documents and maps on local history for those who wish to research their ancestors or other aspects of local history. The Discovery Centre also houses the Hampshire Naval Collection.
