Appointment of Designated Person

The River Hamble Harbour Authority complies with the Port Marine Safety Code and has appointed an independent Designated Person to monitor compliance with the Code and to report to the Harbour Authority and the Department of Transport.

Any reasonable concerns regarding safety on the River may, in addition to being reported to the Harbour Master, be brought to the attention of the Designated Person by writing to

Marine Enforcement and its appropriate staff:

• have a working knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code, the Guide to Good Practice for Port Marine Operations, and any accompanying Competency Standards
• provide independent assurance to the River Hamble Harbour Board that the safety management system required by the Port Marine Safety Code is working effectively
• at six monthly intervals audit the Harbour Authority’s compliance with the Code.

All River Users and all Harbour Authority staff have direct access to the Designated Person.

Marine Enforcement has direct access to the River Hamble Harbour Board and is assured of direct access to the Chairman of the River Hamble Harbour Board whenever it regards this is necessary.
